The Shoe

The Shoe is an indie-pop musical duo consisting of actress Jena Malone and pianist/producer Lem Jay Ignacio. The project is known for its quirky, confessional style that often incorporates elements of folk, surf pop, and shoegaze.

Born from a chance meeting in 2008, the duo became a pillar of the Community Music roster with the 2014 release of their debut full-length album, I’m Okay. The record remains a definitive example of the label's commitment to raw, independent expression, featuring intimate tracks like "His Gorgeousness" and "Paper Cup" that were built around Malone’s custom instrument-trunk and Ignacio’s melodic piano.

Over the last decade, The Shoe has maintained its DIY spirit, occasionally resurfacing for spontaneous live performances and selective releases. In 2023, the duo returned with the single "Hey Stop," proving their improvisational chemistry and unique storytelling language are as vibrant as ever. Their work continues to bridge the gap between experimental sound design and deeply personal, "bedroom-pop" intimacy.
